The Avant-garde Acting Studio was conceived in an unexpected setting—Bimini, an island in the Bahamas, during December 2021. Amidst the pandemic, I accepted my boyfriend's generous offer to embark on a 2000-mile journey from New York to the Caribbean on a small boat. Despite my initial hesitation, given my life in New York and my acting career, the pandemic presented a unique opportunity. With film rehearsals shifting to Zoom, I could fly back for films and festivals, and even perform shows in historical venues during our travels.

The journey was fraught with challenges—engine failures, water leaks, navigation issues, and unpredictable weather—but it also offered breathtaking sunsets and fascinating encounters with the boating community. Yet, I missed my artistic community and seized this moment to pursue a long-held dream: developing my own acting technique.

The pandemic's push towards virtual platforms made Zoom the perfect medium. Drawing from my diverse training—studying in the Netherlands, exploring Antonin Artaud's theories, and learning from the best in New York—I realized no single method fit every acting role. Each required a fresh approach, and then, inspiration struck in Bimini: the archetypes of Jung.

Jung's 12 archetypes, each with a shadow side and various sub-archetypes, offered a comprehensive framework. I integrated different energies, sensory exercises, and methods for each archetype, creating a system that worked remarkably well over Zoom. This approach allowed actors to explore roles beyond their usual casting, in a supportive environment without immediate performance pressure.

The results were profound. The energies transmitted over Zoom were palpable, enabling actors to embody specific archetypes effectively. This system not only expanded their range but also mine, leading to roles I hadn't previously considered.
