Acting with the Archetypes

Expand the range of characters you can play by working with the underlying archetypes.

Archetype & Improvisation Workshop

TIRED OF BEING TYPECAST?

Expand the range of characters you can play by working with the underlying archetypes. The archetypes offer us deep insights in underlying universal patterns and behaviors.

We work with guided improvisations and exercises I've learned throughout my life as an actor.

THIS SYSTEM WORKS!

The 12 character archetypes that were defined by psychiatrist Carl Jung are all fully explored in this ongoing virtual workshop.

Jungian archetypes are defined as universal, primal symbols and images that derive from the collective unconscious. Every week we work with a different archetype, ranging from the fool to the orphan, the hero, the magician and much more. You will discover the characteristics, impulses and traits of the different types during this hands-on, live, interactive and transformative workshop.

The archetypes offer us deep insights in underlying universal patterns and behaviors.

The purpose is to expand your personal skills, discover character work and have fun.

Here’s what you'll discover:

1. how to connect with other actors and let yourself be influenced by them

2. how to give yourself over to a character

3. how to be natural and in the moment

4. how to trust and follow your impulses

5. how to make bold choices

6. how to never judge your character

7. how to expand and widen the range of characters you can play by using the archetypes

These ongoing virtual pop-up classes have the potential to widen the range of characters you can play, develop your improvisation skills and leave you with a renewed joy for acting. I will share different acting techniques and insights I gathered during my film and stage career in Europe and the US to help you build characters.

This course offers a safe space where you can develop your imagination and get more in touch with your creative instincts. Be ready for the unexpected and liberate your inner artist!

Carl Jung: "What is not brought to consciousness, comes to us as fate."

The artist/ creator has a thirst for unique or unusual things and they make things happen. Mediocrity is their biggest fear, and their desire for perfection can be fatal.

.

The caregiver is all about helping other people, however, in their quest to help other people they can also make things worse

The lover is passionate and longs for intimate connection. If their love is unfulfilled or their heart is broken, their passion could turn into jealousy, desperation or destruction.

The innocent archetype believes in harmony, seeks happiness for all and is a master in denial. When confronted by the harsh reality their world falls apart.

The Everyman is an average person who tries to lead a simple life. They do what is necessary to survive and they don’t like to get out of their comfort zone. They are usually the ones who tell the hero: “What you want is not possible or too dangerous.”

The Fool laughs at life's difficulties and gets back up again no matter how many times you knock him down.

Rebels are not afraid to shake things up and nobody can tell them what to do or how to do it. They make up their own rules and are often seen as troublemakers.

The Magician transforms the material or spiritual world without changing him or herself.

The Sage is relentlessly pursuing the truth and believes that knowledge will make the world a better place, even if that truth is unpopular or a danger to themselves or others. They usually make smart, unbiased decisions, however, their wisdom doesn't necessarily translate into action.

Always seeking out the next adventure, the explorer is independent and adventurous, yet their adventure can lead to restlessness, flakiness or disappearance and tragic death.

Charismatic and conscious of their image, the Ruler is a natural born leader who prevents chaos by taking control.

The Hero doesn't start out as a hero. They are often ordinary people faced with extraordinary circumstances who may be reluctant or frightened to pick up the challenge.

"These workshops are pure gold"

Rob Sampson

“I’ve taken classes with some of the best, well respected acting teachers and coaches in the business. The Avant-garde acting studio has connected me viscerally with parts of myself that I never knew existed-archetypical selves.
When you have the privilege of working with Eva Dorrepaal you begin a journey that connects you with aspects of yourself that you haven’t yet allowed expression; and when you follow the prompts and improvisational direction of Eva D you begin to understand how unlimited you are as an actor and how much there is to express that you’ve somehow allowed to go unrecognized. Her work is revolutionary yet primal and universal.
I just loved what I experienced in Eva’s classes and I can’t wait to take the next and the next and the next one!!!”

Monica Kenton

Spiritual Mentor for LIfe and Business, Dream Teacher
